I tried it out for my mother’s birthday, and it turned out wonderfully moist. I used sour cherries instead of sweet (I love sour flavors), and I put a chocolate ganache with espresso powder and some more cherry syrup on the cake as well as everything else. In my opinion, these additions added an extra layer of complexity to the cake that was a hit for me and my family. I applied a lot of syrup to the cake, and to my surprise, the cake didn’t have a waterlogged texture at all. It was so moist. thanks for this recipe!

None of these black forest cake recipes have a yellow layer.
