I’ve now made these muffins 3 times and my husband is obsessed with them!! (So am I) Everything comes together in one bowl, so it’s very easy cleanup. The batter is so light and fluffy, the muffins come out moist and incredible every single time. Please never take down this recipe, it’s a staple!!

I made a very minor alteration: I used 4 tablespoons of butter and 4 tablespoons of applesauce. I used only 1/2 cup chocolate chips. I used powdered buttermilk replacer which I keep around for baking; it is quite handy. I used Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa, and I added a tablespoon of Bustelo instant coffee. I did use 1 cup of white whole wheat flour.
The small changes did not make them any less amazing and the recipe made a perfect dozen. These are the greatest!

We prefer to store these in the fridge in an airtight container or plastic bag because they stay fresh for longer!

Hi! Yes the batter will be wet, but once the baking powder kicks in it will start to thicken up!
