Christmas is in less than one week, which can only mean one thing: it’s cookie time babiez! Crinkle cookies, sandwich cookies, oatmeal cookies, chocolate chip cookies, truffles, s’mores cookies, cookie bars…we’re officially declaring ourselves cookie monsters until 2020 rolls around.

We rounded up our favorite holiday cookies. Every single one of these showstopping recipes is a guaranteed winner of any and all cookie exchanges.

What makes the perfect Christmas cookie recipe?

The beautiful thing about holiday cookies is that you can make pretty much any cookie recipe into a Christmas cookie. Add some festive sprinkles, candy canes, drizzled chocolate, and a bow and your everyday cookie is immediately elevated to holiday cookie status. For me there are three necessary characteristics all Christmas cookie recipes must have:

• Indulgent: The holiday season is all about treating yourself! Now is the time to go all out on buttery shortbread bars, fudgy brownie cookies, and decadent chocolate chip cookies.
• Dependable and Easy to Make: During the holiday season the last thing I want to do is work with a finicky recipe. There’s no time for a bad batch of Christmas cookies. Rest assured, that each and every one of these recipes has been tested countless times so you’ll get perfect holiday cookies every darn time!
• Festive Flavors: Now this isn’t a must, but a cookie recipe certainly gets points for including any of the following flavors: chocolate-peppermint, caramel, candy cane, s’mores, turtle, pecan praline, cinnamon, red + green themed (not a flavor, but you know what I mean!), ginger, oatmeal, molasses…basically anything that gives you a bit of nostalgia for the holidays is a perfect candidate for a Christmas cookie.
